What is the HeadStrong Hair Health Scan?
The Hair health Scan is a scalp and hair MOT. A small handheld AI camera rests on the scalp, takes high-magnification images zone by zone, and scores what it sees providing a detailed report on your scalp and hair condition and health in real time. The results appear on screen straight away, so you can see exactly what we see, with no guesswork. Russ then interprets the results with you, face to face, and recommends what to do next.

You've noticed something. Now find out what it means.
Maybe there's more hair on the pillow than there used to be. Your parting looks wider in certain light. You've started checking your crown in the mirror. Or your scalp is itchy, flaky or oily whichever shampoo you try.
Most people live with that worry for months, sometimes years. They search late at night, guess, and buy serums they saw on TikTok, and they still don't know what's actually going on.
The Hair Health Scan replaces guesswork with a clear picture of your own scalp, and an expert who'll explain it in plain English.
Your Scalp is Skin. It deserves the same care as your face.
We cleanse, moisturise and protect the skin on our faces. The skin on our heads gets a quick shampoo and not much else.
Yet your scalp is home to around 100,000 hair follicles and has one of the highest concentrations of oil glands anywhere on the body. It's the soil your hair grows from. When it's dry, inflamed or out of balance, your hair feels it. Hormones, stress, diet, the sun and your routine all show up there first.
Looking after your scalp is the first step to looking after your hair, and you can't look after what you've never properly seen.

How your Hair Health Scan Works
-
Tell us about you. A short consultation covering your hair history, health, lifestyle and what's worrying you. Everything you share stays confidential.
-
The scan. A small handheld AI camera rests gently on your scalp and captures magnified images at six points, from your hairline and temples to your crown. Nothing is invasive and nothing hurts.
-
See it for yourself. Your results appear on screen straight away, with an overall scalp score and a reading for each indicator. You see exactly what we see.
-
The read. Russ goes through the results with you face to face, links them to what's happening in your life, and explains what may be behind them.
-
Your plan. You leave with your results, a personal care plan and a baseline, so any future scan can show exactly what has changed.
What We Measure
Ten indicators of scalp and hair health
Your scan looks at your hair and the skin it grows from, so you get the full picture.
-

-
Hairs per follicle: whether follicles are producing fewer hairs
-

-
Hair volume: overall fullness
-
Sebum (oil): whether your scalp is too oily or too dry
-
Keratin build-up: residue that can clog follicles
-
Dandruff: flaking and scaling
-
Sensitivity: signs of redness and irritation
-
Moisture: how well hydrated your scalp is
-

The Difference is the Read
The scanner gives the data. Russ gives the read.
Plenty of devices can photograph a scalp. What matters is what happens next. Russ Nicholson is one of Europe's most celebrated, award-winning SMP artists, and he has been through hair loss himself. He looks at your numbers alongside your history, your lifestyle and what's worrying you, and tells you honestly what he thinks is behind them. That could be:
-
Thinning or pattern hair loss
-
Hormonal change, including pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause
-
Shedding after a stressful period
-
Nutrition and lifestyle
-
A dry, itchy or oily scalp that needs the right care
"The scanner gives me the data. My job is to read it with you, alongside everything going on in your life, and tell you honestly what I think is behind it."
Russ Nicholson, The Scalp Stylist
Is the Hair Health Scan
Right for You?
It's for men and women, from your twenties onwards, at any stage. Book a scan if you've noticed:
-
More hair in the shower, on your brush or on your pillow
-
A receding hairline, a thinning crown or a widening parting
-
Hair that feels finer, flatter or slower to grow
-
Changes since having a baby, during perimenopause or menopause, or after a stressful time
-
An itchy, flaky, oily or tight scalp
-
Hair loss in your family, and you want to know where you stand
Nothing's changed yet? A scan now gives you a baseline. The earlier you understand what's going on, the more options you tend to have.

The honest promise
If your scalp is healthy, Russ will tell you. If it's just a dry scalp that needs a different shampoo, he'll tell you that too. And if anything suggests a medical cause, he'll recommend you see your GP, a trichologist or a dermatologist.
No pressure, no hard sell, and no treatment you don't need.

"Sometimes the answer is stress, sometimes it's hormones, sometimes it's just a dry scalp. And sometimes it's nothing at all. I'd rather tell someone they're fine than sell them something they don't need."
Russ Nicholson

" I was so surprised by the results. I've been worried about my hair for a while. Increase shedding, dry, weak broken strands, an itchy scalp. I thought my hair was thinning and was worried about future hair loss. Turns out, although my hair is lacking moisture, I am not producing enough sebum and it's likely I have been using shampoos that are too strong for my hair and self diagnosing through instagram adds thinking I could solve it myself. Now instead of guessing Russ has recommended a range of gentler products for me to use to calm my scalp and hydrate my hair. I cant wait to see the results in a few weeks. "
