Due to the slow growth rate of nails and difficulty of treating the infection people can offer suffer with the condition for many years. Oral medication to treat the infection can be successful but can only be taken for approximately 6 months due to the affect they have on the liver, topical solutions have varying degrees of success due to the difficulty it has in penetrating the nail to reach the infection below. The treatment of fungal nail infections is challenging and unfortunately reinfection rates are high, the aim of the laser treatment is to enable clear nail growth and then measures can be taken to prevent further infection, these can include, topical anti-fungal medication, keeping your feet dry, wearing footwear in public pools and showers, wearing breathable footwear.

How often is treatment required?

I recommend to start with a minimum of 1 treatment per week for the first 4-6 weeks, if possible twice a week for the first 2-3 weeks. After the first 6 weeks a minimum of one treatment every two weeks is required as the a nail will grow between 0.5 -1mm a month, results will normally be seen in the first 2-3 months as the nail grows, every case is different and the correct course of treatment will be advised on your consultation.

How long does it take?

Laser treatment on fungal nail is incredibly fast, if all the nails on one foot require treatment then the client can expect to be in the clinic for no longer than 10 minutes, making it an ideal treatment to fit into your lunch break

Success rate

Clinical studies have found laser treatment to be as effective as oral and topical medication with success rates between 53-82%

How it works?

The laser treatment works by using a YAG laser to heat the fungal cells within the nail causing fungal damage enabling normal nail growth to continue.
